Why battery health is becoming the number that sets the price

Mileage tells a buyer far less about a Tesla than it does about a petrol car. There's no engine wear to account for and the drivetrain has a fraction of the moving parts, so a 90,000-mile car can be mechanically indistinguishable from a 40,000-mile one. What mileage doesn't answer is the question that actually matters: how far will it still go on a charge?

Options, software and what actually transfers with the car

Physical options behave predictably — paint, interior, tow bar and wheels all stay with the car and are priced accordingly. Software features are the awkward ones. Full Self-Driving in particular has not reliably transferred between owners, and Tesla's position on it has changed more than once, so a listing advertising FSD is not by itself proof that the next owner will get it.

Whether you're buying or selling, confirm it in writing against the car's VIN before letting it affect the price. Premium connectivity is a subscription rather than a one-off unlock, so it simply lapses when the car changes hands.
